I just read the Meeting minutes for the Devon Revitilation Commitee for April 07. They were asked Why the old Street lights were still being used now that the new lights are working the Responce was that DOT required them to have adequte lighting. This comment is unbaliveable. the old lighting should be taken down it looks horrible, Also they shuld have installed the lighting so it would get DOT Approval.

Why if we are doing so much work to Devon does it look so half incomplete. It was a nice start at the bridge. Liberty Rock is a nice addition. Please not another useless expensive clock. All the power lines should have been put underground the streets just dont look right.

In response to the revitliazation, the City needs to do something with the municiple lot on the corner of Bpt Ave & Ormond. In looking at AlDente, and the residents homes/yards on Ormond St. they appear to be proud, and reponsible property owners. It would be nice if the lot being that it's a gateway down Ormond St, and a focal point in Devon was spruced up with some trees, and such.

Traffic is a HUGE ISSUE HERE IN DEVON, have you been on Bpt Ae between the Washington Bridge, and Naugatuck Ave lately, what's it going to take DEATHS to get the traffic looked at , and Policed it is a 2 lane road NOT 4 I drive this stretch daily, and have been hit twice, and am sick of being cutoff ILLEAGALLY by moron drivers. There MUST be highway enterences/exit ramps installed in Stratford to illeviate traffic. Why sould DEVON get the crap end of the stick due to Stratford's need to build stores on the other side of the bridge let them deal with the congestion, Milford has enough of their own.

I totally agree with the last few installments into this Blog. The question I have is who in our local government even reads these. Reason I am asking is that nothing seems to get completelt done in Devon, big deal we have a clock, and lights, what about the business owners along a certain stretch of Bridgeport Avenue that still have graffitti on them, one example is over the Dance Studio, across from Devon News, I see that Kingdom Life has offered to clean it up if the owner requests help, but that probably won't happen it's been there for weeks. Hmm if that was a reidential address I'm sure it would be addressed, business owners have different blight guidelines in Devon. The Mayor really needs to take a good look down here. Devon Day,and concerts that cannot be seen just don't cut it.

I agree with the last post. Blight is a problem. Do you remember that last house that had cars and boats and the heatlth dept, the Mayor, Linda Stock and everyone else was out there? (It' the street next to Intervale) The Mayor said that we didn't need a blight Ordinance that we had deparments that could take care of it....NOT. That house STILL is disgusting. And why can't the businesses along Bpt. Ave. and Naugatuck Ave. weed wack and maybe plant some flowers? Particulary the fence by Devon News, the empty lot on the left by Al Dentes, and Stop and Go- are there any groups out there that might want to "Adopt a Spot"?
Naugatuck Ave. that property that Steakaways used to be in is never taken care of- why would anyone want to rent there.:(

I am so pleased to see all the changes in Devon and know there is much more to be done, but compared to 10-15 yrs ago Devon's come a long way baby! One of my concerns is traffic accidents also. The accidents are frequent on the stretch of intersection between Naugatuck Ave & Milford Point Rd. I worry that it is going to get worse with all this housing going up in the area. The city definetly needs to take a look at traffic in this section of Devon also. I would like to also say how happy I am that we have a Farmer's Market. Kudo's to whoever thought to bring that to Devon. I love it and go nearly every week. I sure hope it continues. Thank-you Devon Commitee for all your hard work!

I can't agree more in reference to the recent posts. Although the commitee has made positive progress, there is much more to be done. As a resident of Devon, I would think that property owners, and renters alike would take pride in how they're property looks. As an example on my street there is a home that is rented, the renter feels the need to do any more that to mow the lawn once a month, the hedges, and trees in the yard are overgrown into their neighbors yards. This landlord needs to step up, I have contacted the town, and was told that this did not qualify as blight, so my question was what does? and they did not have a response. ALL OF YOU PRPOERTY OWNERS THROUGHOUT DEVON "YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE" TAKE PRIDE, and CLEAN UP YOUR MESS !!!!!!!!!!
As far as the "Adopt a Spot" I couldn't agree more, and would be more than happy to pitch in,my aldermen, and neighbor is Marty Hardiman, I will make it a point to talk to him about it, maybe we can et some of the kids off of the street with incentives to get them to work on the beutification of our Village of Devon.
Hoping to see many more posts.............

I think my main concern at this point is the traffic. There are a few traffic lights that could/should be rethought. On Naugatuck Ave, the delayed light by the tile store should have an arrow. All of us who live in the area know the light timing, but what about those that are all moving into the area now?
Also, at the light at Naugatuck and Spring Street, that light should NOT turn green at the same time as the light next to Al Dente. They are not even facing each other. I was almost hit by a bus the other day because we both had a green light and we unaware the other had one. VERY dangerous!
I agree about keeping up the look of our yards, but let's not forget that there is a large population of older residents in Devon and it may not be possible for them to keep up on their yardwork-ESPECIALLY with the heat waves we've had. Even though a lot of money is moving into Devon, not everyone that lives here has the money to keep their yards looking pristine. Just something to think about. Maybe lend a helping hand to those who can't do themselves instead of posting a complaint?

In response to the last post, how can those folks be helped if they are not asking, how do others know they even need help? I know of a few residents that would help, maybe those you speak of can contact our community papers (Milford Mirror, and Weekly) and request that they run a story, on those that could use a hand, as well as I guess you could say solicite those that are willing to help. Many times it is hard to ask for help. Perhaps we could privately compile a list of properties, identify the needs and find the help for our neighbors. I am working on a clean up day, starting with Bpt. Ave. This needs to be coordinted with Public Works, the business owners and perhaps a Scout Troop or two as well as volunteers. Then, through press, we could expand into the neighborhoods. Everyones thoughts...

I'm not sure if anything that has been posted on this blog was the inspiration, but last night on my way home from school I did notice that in front of the Star Cafe the majority of the weeds have been removed, and perhaps they will finish cleaning it up today. Just wanted to mention that little things like that are very noticable, and helps in keeping the Village looking neat, and presentable. Hopefully Al Dente' will take note, and clean up the mess in the lot they own next to them. Has there been any progress on the response from my or the Webmaster's last posts, and are there any additional comments on how to get this moving?

I noticed the same thing and Stop and Go finally weed wacked, I'm going to call Public Works today and ask if they could get rid of the weeds between the street and the sidewalks as well, as a matter of fact I'll call Al Dente's as well. Then, perhaps we can work on identifying our neighbors that need our help and the businesses can spruce up their own areas.

I live in the Wildemere Beach area and need to ask a question. How many of you have seen that house on Botsford that looked like it was going tb this great asset to the neighborhood only to cease building? There is a BIG BLUE dumpster in the front yard, there is all demolition scaps all around the house and the roof is all torn off. They have not done any work on this house in weeks and it is a huge eye sore. How does a neighborhood resident do something to rectify something like this? And I must add, it looks like they have teenagers building/residing at this house. :o

That is a great question, I have the same issue with the condo site on Naugatuck Ave. which is at a stand still, I'll give the building dept. a call. and leave a post, by the way, I called the State DOT in Milford, Sal gave a call back and is going to check out Bpt. Ave. and get back to me about cleaning up the weeds between the street and the curbs.

Building Dept. says that a permit is good for 6 months as long as work is being done. Even if work ceases and starts up again, the permit is still good. There is also no ordinance right now about securing a job site. I would suggest you call the Building Dept., perhaps the Zoning Dept and speak with them. directly. As far as the DOT, I spoke with the Dept. Head in Milford, Sal. He has gone down Bridgeport Ave. and will get that project on his list. He can't just send in a sweeper, the weeds are literally growing out of the street. He said he'd have to send in a crew with shovels to literally chop them out. He has a big project he's working on now but assured me that he would get to it.

That's great news about BPT Ave getting on the list. The area in front of the Star Cafe looks so much better now that they seem to have finished up yesterday. Now we can focus on getting help to those who may need it.
Hopefully the information provided will help rectify the Botsford issue as well.

Thank you for your input on who to contact regarding the house on Botsford. I think I will contact Zoning and see if they can provide any information on this residence and its progress. I was actually wondering if they did even just a little work at a time if that would keep the permit alive. I have noticed extremely MINOR work done maybe once every two weeks. But I have also noticed that planks of wood that were initially on the "addition" were hanging off for a few days until they eventually fell to the ground. This must be a safety hazard. With all the work everyone is doing to improve their homes and the neighborhood it is such a shame to see one or two homes go to the complete opposite extreme. :-(

Although I was extremly excited to see Dan at Aldente clean up the weeds from the side of his building I am upset to see that in doing so now when I look out my back door all I see is a big pile of dirt pushed up against a brand new fence that Kingdom Life put up. How can someone be so rude and not care that they have possibly caused damage to someone elses property, also in looking out my back door I have also seen his workers just sweep garbage from the resturant grounds into the street. I don't mind sharing my street with a business but they should be more considerate of those that live around it.

Dear Robert,

I have been giving thought to your inquiry about my ideas it got me thinking about who is best positioned to participate in such a project and numerous organization come to mind.

I reading the many blogs here I can identify many points of concern, including the Devon Bridge traffic, Landscaping, and run down homes. There is probably more, I plan on visiting Devon in the coming week to get a firm grasp of the scope of this project. I would do it sooner but this week I have been working on the computer systems of just about every Milford Middle School. Part of my computer Company assignment is to provide severely discounted help to the BOE to get every Middle School child in Milford updated computer programs. There are 1000 computers so I have been busy finishing this project for returning school children.

But this is what is on my mind at the moment, First a project has to be defined. This can only happen by addressing key areas of concern. Someone needs to draw up a priority list of what needs to be done and who is expected to do it, I think volunteers is the plan at the moment.

When we get that far, we next need to look into the legal and insurance ramifications of each item to ensure against liability. We certainly do want to be covered in the event of any unfortunate accident.

Once we specify a project with clear goals and objectives we need to define the type of help we need. Are they landscapers, carpenters, handymen, painters, etc.. These people need to be defined so we know who the proper personnel will be, and have them available before hand.

With this in place, we can go to the Devon Rotary, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, etc. and ask for a donation for materials etc.., I would be glad to address them on behalf of any submitted plan. We may even want to entice them by erecting a sign or token of appreciation in their honor. We can also sell a brick, a bench or something with some contributors name on it.

I will also have my

I will check back here in a few days I am anxious to get to meet you guys but for now we need to get digging on some issues. Sorry to say what everyone else is thinking... but Devon looks like a dump.

Some building have been facelifted (not crazy about the green that one business used) or maybe it just stands out among the lazy.

Why should we clean up after lazy business owners. They have profits and we already pay taxes. It's not going to teach a scout troup much about life either.

I'd be disgusted if I sent one of my sons to Scout meeting that put them out in busy traffic picking up after society. Cleaning a beach or park is quite different.

I'm not a huge fan of Kingdom Life and quite frankly they scare me... but the buildings they own are nice to look at. (I shouldn't complain here that they over use that grey/white color scheme)

Wow sounds like there is a great deal of issues, and concerns in Devon. While I must admit that my interest in Devon is purely to show that I am cut above the typical candidates that run, I am also hoping to bring something positive to Devon of wich is part of my district.

Without a doubt I believe in leadership that offers a "hand up" not a "hand out" and by all means I will remind you of a conversation I had with a resident there. The main issue was holding people accountable by taking an active and organized role in the area through the enforcement of existing laws and offering assistance to those who are are willing to improve their properties but are unable to due to age, poverty or some other handicap.

This message of mine on this board is one of leadership and community pride in making a difference. It is about helping your disadvantaged neighbor and holding those who harm the community accountable through our existing laws. No one is going to do anything to help your issues it will take a peaceful knock on your neighbors door and you asking them to clean up their act. It requires you to become part of a solution that will beautify the area and ultimately make the shoddy businesses more attractive and ultimately patronize them to make them more profitable. (Customers have more power than just a whiny neighbor.)

What I am learning about Devon, is that although some improvements have arrived they have arrived slow. I also know that too many politicians are serving on the Devon Committee. We need to have someone other than a Priest representing your concerns, or we form a volunteer committee right in the face of the "Official" committee and take our issues to the papers. I will be glad to do that but we first must form a "Committe."

As it stands now, the litany of complaints on this board have little influence over those who are dependent on positive press.

The time to do it is now before elections. Our mayor Jim R. is up for Re-Election and w

The race for Mayor in Milford must be heating up, because Jim Richetelli and his entourage stopped by my home recently. The mayor has been campaigning hard, I received three mailed advertisements from him in the last few weeks, and today a personal visit and a chance to to speak with him briefly.

Shortly after I announced my campaign a few weeks back I called Mayor Jim and spoke to his associate. My intention of the call was to discuss the issues here in Milford, and also register my views on issues regarding the state of CT; Since Jim Amman, my opponent, outright refused to meet with me, even after contacting both his local and state offices.

There is no chance that Mr. Amman did not receive my message, because he replied to a reporter at CT NewsJunkie that the reason he declined to meet with me was because he found my request “odd” and that in his opinion “opponents do not always meet.” Once again today and for the second time I invited Mr. Richetelli to meet with me. It is my hope that after the election debacle wound down he will follow up. I also permitted the Mayor to place a campaign sign on my front lawn. We will give him time to follow up.

As an update to the events of my discussion today, and I must admit I was very vocal, I flat out told Mr. Richetelli that I object to Mr. Amman’s current bonding pressure to run up debt in CT. I also told Mr. Richetelli that I find it amazing that Mr. Amann can find plenty of money to build a boardwalk, yet Milford has no money to assist the elderly, or any intent to help children. I communicated to our mayor that Milford having the largest boardwalk in CT is a disgrace and a misplaced priority. Milford should return that money to the now ailing SCHIP program to make sure Milford’s children have proper medical attention.

Today was hardly the platform for a debate on such issues, and his staff was under pressure to get the Mayor moving door to door. One of his staff members seemed clueless about th

the boardwalk project of which I found odd. Apparently their energy is not in reading all the news at the moment.

My endorsement of our incumbent mayor is largely due to the fact that Kerry Rowland listed the following on her website as her credentials:

Kerri is a 1992 graduate of Boston College. Her accomplishments include:

BA English
BA Secondary Ed.
4 year Women’s Hockey
2 year Captain
AWCHA champions

Kerri’s work history includes:

· New Standard Institute,
Internet Marketing Manager (current)

· Head Coach Girl’s Hockey Notre Dame, Fairfield (current)

· Milford Rec. Dept.

· Milford ASA Umpire.

· Asst. Hockey Coach Sacred Heart University.

Its my belief that anybody, who has any experience hiring people, would find Rowlands qualifications as insufficient. In my opinion, to suggest a little league coach is capable of 80-100 Million a year in cash management decisions is irresponsible.

However, one issue I do agree with Rowland on, is that Jim could have done a better job in keeping our property taxes lower. But neither candidate is offering any security to the struggling elderly, and those near forclosure who fear our local government or bank will evict them. Some of the locals I know are afraid their property will be confiscated. They fear losing their land and/or home if they fall behind on their ever increasing taxes.

Many of these retirees are becoming victims of reverse mortgages, only to have the balance of their estates destroyed by CT's unfair inheritance tax. Should a person be fortunate enough to even have estate balances, will discover that attorneys pay all outstanding health and hefty medical expenses as a first priority.

Both candidates are a troubling choice for me as far as the issues go, but as far as the qualifications go, Kerry Rowland does not hold a candle to Richetelli. My opponent Jim Amman on the other hand thinks that her ridiculous credentials warrant his support. If Rowland wins

The following quote is taken from the NH Register, and should be fought vehemently. Apparently your community leader and my opponent had this to say about Devon.

"Rowland knocked the revitalization efforts Amann has spearheaded by calling them a waste and referring to Devon as a crime- and drug-ridden area." Keep in mind that this is the person Amann endorsed for Mayor.

To recap the difference between us see what I wrote in my blog.

I strongly urge we get this committe going and respond to these callous and disrespectful remarks. Someone please contact me to draft a press release in defense of Devon.

Kerri Rowland never said this. You are repeating a lie that Richetelli told to the reporter who published this false statement.

Kerri said, at the debate, that residents of Devon had complained to her that the drug problems in the community had not been addressed. And they haven't.
You are spreading rumors on behalf of the Republican candidate. Try to stick to telling the truth, it is easier to keep track of.

I contacted Al Dente, and spoke with those guys there in reference to this callous and malicious rumor as you call it.

Whoever said it did a great disservice to the people of Devon and frankly I do not care who started the rumor.

I am neither a Republican or Democrat, but rather a person who is as fed up as you are with the political antics, and tactics to achieve a political objective.

I do not know anything other, than I picked up the newspaper and read the quote I listed above. I found it upsetting and distasteful, and if Richetelli said it shame on him!

The point here is not to take issue with me, but rather get your pen out, as I am, and write to the local newspaper editor and let them know that such remarks are innacurate and damaging to the prosperity and success of Devon of which is now marred due to the political immaturity of someone "as you" put it in party politics.

Sent this letter to the local paper in our defence.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

This letter is to express my discord and sadness with the remarks of our political leaders. The following quote is taken from the NH Register, and is distasteful and hurtful to the people of Devon. Apparently our community leader/s and my opponent had this to say about Devon. "Rowland knocked the revitalization efforts Amann has spearheaded by calling them a waste and referring to Devon as a crime- and drug-ridden area." If this is true than shamefully this is the person Jim Amann endorsed for Mayor.

However, I was contacted via a blog and was told that the Register did not report the story accurately that infact Jim Richetelli made this remark to intentionally discredit Rowland’s campaign. In either case Both Amann, and Richetelli serve together on the Devon Revitalization committee and I personally took up the issue with local business owners in Devon, one in particular the owner of Al Dente agrees with me that such comments serve to hurt local businesses, and further undermine the efforts of rebuilding faith in our town. Devon is neither Drug infested, nor anything of the like; Devon is actually a vibrant community whose pride has never been stronger. This pride was recently demonstrated in an outpouring of community pride surrounding the arrival of several Hollywood stars to include Denaro, and Pachino at the Star cafe.

Please direct your grievances to the alleged source of the rumor mill, Amann, Richetelli, and Rowland. Express your feelings regarding their shameful remarks about their, and our, own town.

Today, in my mailbox arrived the Jim Amann 2007 legislative update. This was a very exciting document to read because for certain I expected to read about all the wonderful things that Jim had in store for us here in Milford.

Eagerly I read the entire document from cover to cover and at first glance I saw all these wonderful things that Jim touted about. They all sounded absolutely wonderful until I came to think how much of Jim's hard work in 2007 has made my life and the life of the CT people I know any better. But the bigger question remains how well has Jim addressed the issues of Milford's residents, the issues that were so passionately debated in the last election for mayor?

If we are to use that standard than absolutely nothing in his 2007 legislative update has any bearing on your life. He has not addressed the state law resulting in unfair property assessments, he has not touched the issue pertaining to your outrageous electric bill, he has not mentioned a word about Broadwater, a massive Liquefied natural gas facility underway off our coast. Jim did not address the 14.5 billion state debt crisis, nor did he touch on crime and early parole of violent felons due to prison construction and overcrowding. Jim has not addressed state tax burdens, or our state energy conservation in lieu of the "peak Oil" crisis, and most disconcerting he has not mentioned a word about why a massive carcinogenic mercury polluting power plant is reopening in the heart of our district. A plant that is using a brand new power grid the taxpayers built with no remittance of a savings to us.

So how did Jim represent us? To begin lets address each point in his legislative update and see how any of this helps you or your family.

Point 1: Keeping Our Kids Safe, Megan's Law, Jessica's Law. I would of voted in favor of these laws but certainly I would not tout it as an accomplishment to my district. These laws are aimed at so few predators that it is of little concern to the mai

main issues mentioned above in our district. Most everyone in Milford is a law abiding citizen, and I pray we never have the problems of Bridgeport, New Haven or Big cities in America.

Point 2: Improvements to Husky Health care. Point one is pay more money out to Dr.'s and hospitals. (I suppose Jim feels they charge too little.) Point 2 is newborn enrollment for the first 4 months of life. Point 3 is an outreach program to find more qualified residents. (How is this is going to be funded is my main question.)

But to recap the challenges facing Husky, Jim failed to address the big issues, first the Federal Wellcare raid in Fla. has put a major portion of the Husky program at risk, and sent Gov. Rell scrambling for solutions, but more importantly the Bush administration has been cutting money to the SCHIP program that includes Husky. Looks like Jim did manage to expand a financially troubled program without being able to first procure the lost federal funds, let alone the additional funds his touted expansion will require. As the funds dry up faster, expect Dr. to avoid Husky a like a "midnight drunk" making any SCHIP card holders have a more unpleasant experience than they already know.

Point 3: Teachers Retirement: Bonds were used to honor a contract that was due the teachers in the first place. (I assume that this problem resulted from financially misplaced Lottery proceeds that he has not mentioned.) Quite sadly this mistake now marks 25 years of your children's future debt, but Amann touts a savings of 2.8 Billion! Make no mistake here, this is not an achievement but rather a case of "pay up" or "get sued."

More curious, what is the actual amount due if this 2.6 billion is just the savings? To begin on this point I will say again that absolutely CT needs to honor its contracts to teachers, but a 2.8 Billion dollar savings just sounds like "Voodoo Economics to me." That translates to $100,000 per each retired teacher. That is

just the underfunded savings part for 28,040 retired teachers in this state. This does not add up, unless the cost of retiring a teacher in CT is upward of $1,000,000.00 per teacher. In that case the underfunded pension and mismanaged lottery money should be the least of Amann's concerns.

Point 4: Investments for Milford: This part is just aggregate to what I said earlier about Jim and his less than sincere use of appropriations. My previous post (highlighted) deals with this issue very eloquently, and to see yet another person brandishing a giant state welfare check just proves the Robin Hood mentality of our Speaker who buys your vote with other peoples tax money. See my previous post: Amann and Welfare Bonding One other point not mentioned in Jim's Money for Milford section is his $140,000.00 check to St. Mary's Catholic School. I guess churches being exempt from property taxes is not enough, Jim has to give our state tax dollars to fund controversy engaging those who believe in a separation of Church and State. Meanwhile CT, cannot meet its own legal obligations ordered by a Supreme Court judge in the Sheff v. Oneill legal loss.

Point 5: Devon Revitalization: This project has been a long ongoing project, it has the potential of being really good if handled properly, however the Devon revitalization committee is comprised of religious clergy and politicos, not a single architect, designer or engineer yet this panel continues to tout "smart growth." "Smart Growth" is an idea originated by architect "Peter Caltrope" in the 1970's that has become quite controversial. Some communities have rejected "Smart Growth" with the opinion that it has turned into an ideological cult movement aimed at circumventing the zoning and planning laws. Laws we are all forced to follow while municipalities enjoy more freedom and in some cases broadened powers of eminent domain. I believe that Amann or any politician for that matter is not qualified or educa

educated enough to be on a panel that is responsible for urban planning and design. He is neither an Architect nor an engineer but rather an ideological politician who endorsed a candidate Kerry Rowland who called the Devon revitalization a "Waste" in my view marring further his judgement. The 7 plus million in my view is mis-prioritized. One point in particular is $3,000,000.00 to expand our local government complex of which I respectfully object to, as I believe in shrinking government and keeping it out of our lives.

Point 6: Money for Milford Projects: All the same points apply here as in Point 4. This is just more State Welfare at the expense of bonding debt. Essentially it represents your children's future being mortgaged for special interests many of which do not even pay tax. This model is identical to the Federal Debt model of spending without regard to consequence of debt. The USA is 9.5 Trillion in debt and CT 14.5 Billion in debt. This failed at the federal level and will fail even worse at the state level.

Point 7: Hollywood East, this about the only other thing we can agree on, besides honoring a state teachers contract. Hollywood east brings money to local businesses, and develops community pride. This is a small step in the right direction, however, it was not a principal focal point of Milford's Residents during the last Mayoral election. Although, I agree having big screen actors run around our city is exciting, in other ways it can be challenging, as these film crews create traffic jams, close down our streets and offer a modicum of financial relief to local businesses. This will become even more exciting, should Hollywood East actually invest commercially in Devon, of which, to my knowledge, they have not.

In conclusion what is important to note here is that the brochure that has been sent out to you, has missed all of the vital issues that we in town raised during the Kerri, Richetelli mayoral race. His legislati

legislative report is more indicative of Mr. Amann's disconnect from the voice of the people he claims to represent. One last major point in particular is the high Cost of energy and his poor choices. To explain, Jim opposed the State's Attorney's advice regarding the "Windfall Profits Tax." Instead he Introduced H.B. 7432, and stopped the Gas tax plan making our gasoline even more expensive.

Jim has sent us all a brochure reminding us of how disconnected he is from our true social needs. While I personally enjoyed all the photos of Jim with our children, I will not be so naive as to think that is somehow representation. Our children deserve more than a proponent of industrial mercury polluters, like UI, who have put us all at risk for grave diseases, more especially children.

The most clever profiteer in Milford is by far The United Illuminating Company who has achieved a stellar profit record for their share holders and future interests. In 2007 UI was able to circumvent the "Windfall Profits Tax", duped the CT House of Representatives with (HB 7432) by charging you "for lost profits", charging you again for a "Rebate Program", UI "Defrauded" customers with meters that overcharge, was "gifted" a brand new power grid, and most insulting of all won permission to raise our electrical rates 90% in just a few years.

With such a solid business climate you would think that UI would be satisfied, as a matter of fact they decided to do business with Energy Inc. to reopen what they call a "clean power plant" here in Milford. This partnership is with a company that owns TEN, a company that is now in court with Attorney General Blumenthal for allegations that it breached its contract and overcharged taxpayers over 14 Million Dollars. TEN even has gone so far as to attempt a disruption of power to important buildings at the State Capitol.

With such a marred controversial record, are we now to believe and trust that UI and NRG burning natural gas is "clean?" The facts indicate otherwise, as these natural gas plants will likely need to obtain their fuel from a foreign source. The North East peaked on oil and gas some time ago, and a opportunity has been created for a controversial LNG or Liquefied Natural Gas facility off the coast of CT in NY waters. Unfortunately the game is "afoot" because NY Gov. Pataki is holding the fate of CT's waterfront. If the Gov. approves the LNG than UI scores another big victory while we the inhabitants of this state lose yet again.

Make no mistake, mining for Gas is not "Eco friendly" an LNG is not "Eco-friendly" and the billowing smoke coming out of UI's smoke stack will still create massive CO2 "greenhouse gas" emissions with reduced air quality in our town. The only thing "clean" about gas is that it puts le

less mercury into the environment. This comes at a huge price, the price being a "reshuffling" of environmentally destructive sources. Do not believe the news in the Milford Mirror as fact because they originate from UI press releases and connected sources. They are intended to make you feel content with their 700 Million dollar plant opening right near your home as somehow safe.

The real kicker, aside from, obvious health risks, the transport of more toxic and explosive gas and chemicals, and increased traffic congestion, is UI's demand that we pay them yet again as a reward for building a "clean" plant. UI has yet done too little to remediate the massive mercury and methylmercury problem they created just a few short years ago. To any naysayers out there, if it has a billowing smokestack it is not clean, it is as simple as that.

Jim Amann thought he would kick off his announcement for Governor with a warm reception and lots of hugs, kisses and congratulations. Unfortunately, a Hearse pulled up in front of city hall with a platoon of protesters.

Jim Amann has sewn the seeds of his own destruction when he decided to "stab his own party in the back." He has gotten so many in the Democratic party so upset over his disloyalty and party disrespect that he has now pitted himself against a hostile Democratic party whom he expects to nominate him for Governor.

This battle ensued when Jim Amann endorsed Joe Lieberman after he lost in a very honorable primary against Ned Lamont. Joe, most remembered for causing Al Gore's election loss, and aggressive stance to instate a Military Draft and wage war with Iran, is Jim Amann's choice of a candidate.

Jim Amann is a tyrant who has driven up our electric rates, opposed ethics in government, wasted millions in tax dollars, and built a list of enemies on the web that rival those of Osama Bin Laden. This Novemeber 2008 I wish for everyone to remember that he said you are an "Idiot" a quote taken from his tyrannical video now featured at the Fourth Anti-Amann website on the net. www.amann2010.com.

Jim Amann must be stopped dead in his tracks if we are to save our state. He has taken part in one of the most egregious acts of wasteful spending and indebtedness in all my memory in this state. Jim has lead a once beautiful sanctuary of a state 16 years ago to a now debt ridden, overtaxed, business exodus resulting in the hardest economic times ever. Jim also takes no responsibility for his part in any of this, and always finds plenty of people to blame. Jim never blames himself for anything! Even when we all can see with our own two eyes that he is acting against the public interest. The largest case in point is how he continues to use his position at his fundraising charity so shake down lobbyists for his personal financial gain. Perhaps there is more

Mayor James L. Richetelli Jr. told the Devon committee that the Department of Public Works is "overburdened," and asking them to water plants and flowers once a week "isn't" possible.

What is wrong with our leaders? How much work could it be to water some plants and flowers in key parts of town? The people of Devon would love nothing more than to have their main streets and beaches decorated with flowers and seasonal plants.

This is a very inexpensive trend that many cities use to beautify the local neighborhoods. In my opinion there is nothing more attractive than to drive up the street and see nicely planted flowers in the parks, beaches and business districts.

Many business owners would benefit from this type of beautification and although I cannot speak for every business owner, If the city gave me a flower pot to put in front of my business I would volunteer to care for it as I believe it would improve my business image.

Just for an instance let us say that the Devon Revitalization Committee approved 100 strategically placed flower pots at local beaches, public parks and within the business district. I would suppose that in one eight hour day, a high school kid with a summer job could effectively care for all of them with a water truck. Assuming the city cannot afford a water truck it may take twice that long, but in either case this lame excuse that it "Isn't Possible" is about as ignorant as the word "Isn't" of which "is not" proper English.

The photo (at www.rfrank118.com/blog.htm) is of a very popular "adopt a spot" program where businesses are permitted to plant flowers on city property provided they maintain it. In exchange they get a small tasteful sign advertising their business. This has been done with great success throughout many towns in CT and beyond, including Westport.

My Letter To. Gov. Patterson opposing the LNG, please help us and write yours.

Dear Gov. Patterson,

Please be advised that I am family member to several residents of NY state, but I live in CT. We recently had a discussion about CT's failing prison system and influx of gulf war veteran's returning home with PTSD.

This mix combined with the high risk of domestic terrorism, makes an LNG in NY waters a very dangerous proposition. Our waters have no security, no plans of any security and Broadwaters owners has shunned the cost of functional security.

As you know natural gas is highly flammable, highly explosive and easily ignited by something as simple as a sniper rifle with a few armor piercing tracer rounds, these are very easily obtained by any war veteran.

The thought of a terrorist/ecological disaster within the Long Island sound would be the surest way to guarantee that your legacy as a Governor remain as indignant and disrespectful to needs of not only CT and NY's families but to America as a whole.

I urge you with the utmost sincerety and gravest of alarm to deny Broadwater its mooring permit so it can be placed in the Meadowlands in NJ, closer to our main shipping ports and under the current supervision and security of The Department Homeland Security.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely;

The Recent Milford Weekly article indicated successors to Jim Amann in the 118th, and makes no mention of Rocco Frank Jr. who has announced his candidacy before all others, you will find that Rocco, an Independent candidate, is the most qualified, dedicated and enthusiastic of those mentioned thus far. Rocco is the only commited contender to date. When any newspapers referencing candidates fail to include Rocco Frank it is rather odd as he has been working harder longer, and is more dedicated to the quality of life in Milford than any of the news mentioned contenders who (as the Weekly article mentions,) are not even certain they will run.

Frank has already posted an ambitious website, instituted a Milford town Blog and built a community forum on the internet. Frank is expected to collect between 1000-2000 ballot signatures from the district. Franks website is www.rfrank118.com. Press releases can be obtained from the site, as well as useful information about the progress being made. For more information the Frank campaign H.Q. and data center, is located at 374 New Haven Ave. Milford, CT 06460 and they can be reached at (203) 247-4357.
